Dental Homebush – Alternative to Braces
Only a few of us have naturally straight teeth. Most of those have straight teeth now either had braces as teenagers, or a little dental work to perform the straightening done latter on. A few of us are left with less than straight as adult, and may not be happy about this.
It is possible to get braces at any age past our teens, and a few adults do use braces to straighten their teeth. But many don’t like the idea of wearing braces, disliking the look (which seems very teenage), the discomfort, or the awkwardness when speaking.
One alternative to braces is Invisalign. This is a a series of clear plastic retainers, a little like mouth guards, that steadily bring the teeth into alignment.
Invisalign – Homebush Dentist
Invisalign causes only minor discomfort, much less than braces, and there are no hard edges to cause mouth ulcers. So Invisalign is easy to accommodate. Furthermore, Invisalign will be removed when eating, so they do not make eating difficult as braces initially do.
Best of all, Invisalign is hardly noticeable. The clear plastic retainers are fairly discrete and even if they are noticed they are not unpleasant looking.
Invisalign cannot perform all the straightening functions that braces do. They cannot perform jaw alignments, nor complex tooth adjustments. But they can do the majority of small and moderate corrections, making them suitable for most situations.
The dentist will supply a new Invisalign mouth guard every 6 to 8 weeks. Each new mouth guard is sightly different, progressively moving the teeth into place. Over period of 1 to 2 years your teeth will come into ideal alignment. The mouth guards must be worn 22 hours a day. But this is usually not a problem.
Invisalign is a good option for adults who want to straighten their teeth.
